The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Ukrainian-based IT company Grammarly have announced the continuation of a joint project aimed at supporting the use of English in higher education institutions. As part of this initiative, Ukrainian universities can get free access to the Grammarly for Education product for teachers and students until February 2026.

The pilot project started in September 2024, and as of today, more than 130 Ukrainian higher education institutions have already joined it and use the advanced functionality of the Grammarly AI assistant to work with texts in English. After the completion of the pilot project, the program has now been extended until the end of February 2026.

Grammarly is a Ukrainian-based IT company that develops an AI assistant to improve English communication and productivity. Every day, Grammarly products are used by more than 40 million people around the world, as well as more than 3000 educational institutions, including leading universities in the United States.

The joint initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science and Grammarly aims to provide students and teachers with access to advanced AI tools to improve English language skills. The implementation of the Grammarly for Education product will contribute to increasing the level of English language proficiency in Ukraine and its popularization as a language of international communication.

Grammarly for Education provides comprehensive support that goes beyond the usual spelling and grammar checker and covers:

  • Recommendations for improving the clarity, conciseness, tone of texts and other aspects of writing.

  • Explanation of the service's strategic recommendations that help improve writing skills over time.

  • Generative AI-based features that can be optionally enabled by school administrators.

  • Automatic citation generation, plagiarism detector,  and Authorship function. In particular, the Authorship feature is an important tool to support students in the era of generative AI because it helps them create reports on the process of writing a document. It marks text as human-typed, AI-modified, inserted from a known or unknown source, or edited in Grammarly or the built-in spell checker. This allows students to confirm the uniqueness of their work as needed.

Grammarly adheres to the principles of safe and responsible implementation of AI-powered innovation and development and has developed the "AI for Students" course, which provides students with guidance on the responsible application of generative AI technologies.
